MONÉT
In keeping with its tradition of
working with multi-dimensional artists. Purpose Records
introduces the multi-talented
singer/songwriter/musician/actress, and film director MONÉT.
New York born and bred, MONÉT was introduced to Jazz,
R&B, Classical music and theater at an early age by her
parents." I started playing classical flute at age six. My
mother was part of a pop singing group and my father managed
Jazz and Latin artists."
MONÉT'S debut CD "ESSENCE," is
music she describes as organic soul with funk, jazz, soul and
folk flavors. "I wanted to write about emotions, moods and
feelings. I wanted to write about the things people do not
easily express" states MONÉT.
She credits MARVIN GAYE,
JONI MITCHELL, BOB MARLEY and SADE as her biggest
influences.
Her debut CD features collaborations with,
and productions by GIL SMALL (Ronny Jordan, Asaph Womack), DJ
SPINNA(Shaun Escoffree, Verve Remix Vol2,Roy Hargrove), ANGELA
JOHNSON (Rahsaan Patterson, Cooly's Hot Box), and TICKLAH (Dub
Side of the Moon, Antibalas).
MONÉT, a very talented
writer, co-wrote every song on the CD.
The three
instrumental compositions "Spirit", "Bahia Blues" and
"Vibacious" showcase MONÉT's instrumental prowess as well as
her versatility.
"Vibacious" has already been featured
on the WEATHER CHANNEL ,While " Spirit" is being used by BLAKE
RADIO.com and is part of the SOUL LOUNGE COMPILATION VOL
1
which spotlights some of soul music's best kept
secrets.
Recently; there has been quite a demand for
MONÉT'S flute work. Recent projects include an instrumental
collaboration with DJ SPINNA entitled "Navajo Moods" featured
on the "TRIP DO WEST" project for SONY FRANCE/RYTHMIX RECORDS,
and "ECHOES," the spoken word project put together by LES
NUBIANS, She most recently completed work on a duet with
CHRISTIAN URICH for the upcoming TORTURED SOUL CD and co-wrote
a tune for the next COOLY's HOT BOX
project.
MONÉT has also been busy on the stage.
Sharing it with such luminaries as guitar virtuoso VERNON
REID, afro-beat sensation ANTIBALAS, French soul sisters LES
NUBIANS, underground hip hop leaders JIGMASTAS and GREG TATE'S
BURNT SUGAR.
